A unique t-shirt inspired by Japanese civilization and its mythology!
On the front of this t-shirt is written a Japanese proverb 嘘のような誠 (uso no you na makoto), which means in French “the truth exceeds the fiction” (“truth is stranger than fiction” in English).
A proverb that I chose because it reminded me of Japanese mythology. Indeed, sometimes there are truths so implausible that they make one believe in a lie. A phrase that can be applied to mythologies in general and which everyone is free to interpret in their own way, but which is therefore quite interesting when you think about it.
On the back of this t-shirt is represented a kitsune mask, sakuras, as well as a Torii.
The kitsune 狐 (meaning “fox” in French), represents the fox god in Japanese mythology. A fox spirit present in everyday life without us necessarily being able to notice it and who can, if he wishes, take on human form thanks to his divine powers.
In the Shinto religion (one of the oldest known religions in Japan), he is the messenger of the goddess of harvests, prosperity and trade.
In Japan, we can thus find kitsune masks with the effigy of this fox which are for example very often worn during Japanese festivals.
The sakura (櫻), the famous ornamental cherry trees of Japan, are also a major symbol of the land of the rising sun and represent the ephemeral nature of beauty and life.
Very often placed at the entrance to Japanese shrines, the Torii (鳥居) is a traditional Japanese Shinto portal that separates the earthly (physical) world from the divine (spiritual) world.
Like the Kitsune and the Sakura, it is a symbol of Japanese culture recognized throughout the world for its unique aesthetic.
