The Mayan Civilization
The mysterious Maya civilization dates back to the 2nd millennium BC. JC.
The Maya territory was made up of hundreds of city-states over 340,000 square meters, with an estimated population of 7 to 11 million at its peak!
A civilization that had its own hieroglyphic writing, but which however has not yet revealed all these mysteries because it has only been deciphered at around 80%.
The Mayas were polytheists and worshiped many gods including Hunab Ku, the creator god of the Mayas, his son Itzamna, the god of the sky, night and day, or the deity Kukulkan, a feathered serpent, god of resurrection. and reincarnation.
The Mayas are also well known today for their great mathematical, astronomical and architectural knowledge. Their arts, their sculptures, their impressive and contemplative temples and pyramids can also be seen today on sites such as Uaxactùn, Tikal, or Chichén Itzá.
Then, from 900 BC. JC began the decline of this civilization accompanied by the abandonment of most of their cities for reasons still debated.
Nevertheless, even if “the Maya civilization” in itself is no more, its culture continues to exist and cross the centuries through these descendants and the six million people in Central America who still speak the Maya languages!
